Smart Board Exchange Reflection Blog Post

      1. In what learning environments would the technology resource I presented be appropriate? Through exploring Smart Board Exchange, I have concluded how to utilize smart boards more effectively in my classroom. I have seen that the Smart Board Exchange site has resources, lessons, collaborative games and hands on activities in grades K-12 with various subjects ranging from science to literacy to attendance and more. This technology resource is appropriate for the learning environment in my classroom because it gives students the change to gain more technology use if they don't have the resource at home. Students can also self advocate through the self attendance option in Smart Board Exchange. This resource is great for teachers as a teaching/planning/organizing tool, as well as being helpful for students to learn, review, and go over concepts they learn over all subjects.Through researching this resource more, I found that while it is K-12 centered, it is geared more towards the elementary grade level because there is more lessons and activities for the younger grade levels.
      2. In what learning environments would the technology resource I presented NOT be appropriate? Smart Board Exchange has some areas of improvement. It could be improved to be more culturally responsive across various languages and culture backgrounds. While looking into this technology resource, it is presented in mostly English, and doesn't have much room for culturally relevant teaching. This technology site also might be not as relevant to the high school grade levels because there aren't as many lessons/activities. This resource is also not appropriate for schools that have low finances because Smart Boards are costly and this resource coincides with the Smart Board.
      3. How might it be modified to be appropriate? This resource can be modified with more culturally relevant materials. This would allow the digital use to be more  ethical and global awareness and could promote opportunities for students to self advocate for themselves and initiate social change. Because most of the lessons and activities are teacher creations, I believe this resource could be improved if more teachers were aware and collaborated their ideas to the site. This would allow more culturally relevant lessons and more standards and concepts to be provided on the site. This resource is also catered towards Smart Boards, but it would be more accessible if you could access the content on any computer, projector, etc.
      4. What do you now know that needs to be considered when using technology in the classroom? I have learned more about ethical and socially responsible digital use throughout the class collaborative projects. This specific resource is geared towards teachers/schools that own Smart Boards because it syncs with that resource. It is essential to consider the monetary aspect in schools and the affordability factor considering Smart Boards are expensive. Another consideration for using this piece of technology is the language barriers of not having many language options. If a classroom has multiple languages spoken, this resource might not accommodate their needs of learning if it isn't offered in their language. Some of the lessons/activities in this resource are also not beneficial to those with disabilities because it doesn't have universal design for learning (UDL.)These are all aspects to consider when using technology in the classroom, which all contribute to global citizenship and responsible digital use.
